Bench Jeweler
We are seeking a bench jeweler with access to their own bench / work space who can work with us remotely. Strong preference for individuals in the New York City area who can pick up and drop off work from our Brooklyn studio in person.
Requirements
Minimum of 1 - 2 years of experience producing jewelry.
Cleaning and processing silver and gold castings. This includes filing, sanding, shaping, and tumbling casting.
Moderate to advanced soldering skills (minimum 1 year in professional or school setting) —to build handmade chains, jump rings, soldering end caps and clasps to chains.
Applying the signature finish to pieces to prepare them for shipment or for the showroom.
Ability to replicate pre-existing models with efficiency, accuracy, and attention to detail.
Moderate familiarity with fabrication techniques - pulling wire, creating ingots, creating jump rings.
Preparing metal castings for stone setting — ensuring the bezel snuggly fits the stone.
Access to their own jeweler bench / studio that must include a tumbler and soldering station.
Not required, but preferred
Stone setting experience with cabochons and faceted stones.
Experience with assembling mechanisms - huggies, hoops, etc.
Moderate to advanced experience in wax carving.
A bit more about the position
Hours: 10 or so hours per week. The work flow and hours are dependent on our needs. We cannot guarantee a minimum number of hours per week. Some weeks may be 5 hours and others 20 hours. Flexibility is required.
Expectations: The jeweler is expected to pick up / drop off pieces from our studio once a week or more. All of the work will be labeled with deadlines and details and then returned to the studio when complete.
Compensation
As a freelance position, it pays an hourly rate between $24 - $34, depending upon experience. The position will require the individual to fill out a 1099 tax form.
